Discover Beautiful Fall Color in Henry County

As the leaves begin to turn and the smell of a bonfire on an Autumn night drifts through the air – there is no place better than Henry County, Ohio.  For help coordinating your Fall getaway – contact the Napoleon/Henry County Visitors Bureau at (419) 592-1786 or email us at hcncoc@ohiohenrycounty.com

1.  A scenic drive through the country soaking in all the colors Fall features is the perfect medicine for any “hustle and bustle” overload.  Take advantage of one of Ohio’s best Scenic Byways – Ohio State Route 424 between Napoleon and Defiance.  The trees blaze with color and the last of the crops are coming off the fields.  The Maumee River winds next to you and you are able to drive your cares away.  It’s a show you won’t forget.

2.  If you are traveling North and West of Napoleon – don’t miss Ohio State Route 110 between Napoleon and Waterville.  A convenient route to Grand Rapids, Route 110 follows the South bank of the Maumee River.  Complete your trek down the Maumee by cruising in style with a warm apple cider and your eyes opened to nature’s spectacular beauty.  Many new homes are springing up aside the Maumee to catch your fancy, as well.

3.  After your driving tour, stop for some great family fun at Leader’s Corn Maize O-064 Henry County Road 16, Napoleon OH.  Believe me, it’s easy to get lost – and a ton of fun to find your way out.  Bring the kids to ride the “Cow Train” or fire the “Corn Cannon”.  Take an old-fashioned Hay Ride or just shop the Country Store.  And…if you’re brave enough…beginning in late September walk Scream Acres – Leader’s Haunted Corn Field!  It’s so much fun it’s scary!  Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings in September and October.

4.  If you are more into walking among the Fall colors than driving, Henry County is part of the Wabash Cannonball Trail beginning just outside of Liberty Center OH.  The “South Fork” of the Trail takes you from Liberty Center 17 miles Northeast toward Maumee.  The Trail follows the old Norfolk Southern Rail line and takes you right into one of Northwest Ohio’s most beautiful natural areas.  No place better to walk amongst the animals, smell the fresh air and see the colors of Fall.

5.  If you are in Napoleon in early September, you’ve got to stop for the Napoleon Fall Festival at the Henry County Fairgrounds and in Downtown Napoleon.  (419) 592-1786.

6.  Saturday mornings through October, stop on East Washington Street in Napoleon for the Chamber’s Farmers Market.  It’s the best way to get the best produce direct from local growers.  The goods, of course, are seasonal and depend on the weather.  Pull on that favorite sweater or flannel shirt and choose the best pumpkins or gourds or late season produce.  Stop by from 8:30 to 11 in season.

7.  We take our high school football seriously in Henry County.  When I think Fall – I think gridiron action.  Football Friday night is an event at each of our 4 county High Schools.  Our teams are proud of their post season playoff runs and the State Championships brought back home.  Consider taking in a game and soak in the spirit you’ll only find at the small town schools.  Cheer on the Patrick Henry Patriots, the Napoleon Wildcats, the Liberty Center Tigers and the Holgate Tigers live and in person.  If you have a date you’ll be in Henry County and would like to know whether your team is home – contact our office.  The spirit of our local schools is contagious – it will be a memory for years to come!
